How We Think, Connect & Support

What is Trauma Informed Care?

Trauma informed practice means recognising that stressful, frightening or overwhelming experiences can affect how a child feels, behaves, communicates and connects with others.

Rather than asking, "What's wrong with this child?", we ask, "What might this child be trying to tell us?"

This helps us respond with curiosity, compassion and practical support, while creating environments where children feel understood rather than judged.

Safety, Connection and Understanding come First

At the All Is Well Approach, we believe children do best when they feel safe, understood and supported.

Our work is trauma informed, neurodiversity affirming, child centred and grounded in an understanding of relationships, play and the nervous system. We look beyond behaviour to consider what might be happening underneath it, and what a child may need from the adults and environment around them.

Whether we're working through PAWS, PLAY, ART or LEARN, the same principles sit underneath everything we do: creating safe, supportive spaces where children can connect, communicate, explore and grow.

Because sometimes, before a child can learn, communicate or make a change, they need to feel safe enough to soften.

The Nervous System.

A child's nervous system is constantly responding to what is happening around them. Stress, sensory experiences, relationships and feelings of safety can all affect how they respond.

When a child is overwhelmed, anxious, shut down or struggling to engage, their behaviour may be telling us that their system needs support rather than more pressure.

We use this understanding to think about what might help a child feel calmer, more connected and ready to engage.

What We Believe…

Connection Before Correction

Children are more able to learn, reflect and grow when they feel understood and connected.

Boundaries still matter. But relationships matter too.

We believe meaningful change grows from trust, connection and feeling safe enough to engage.

Emotional Safety Matters

Emotional safety isn't a reward that a child has to earn.

It is part of the foundation from which confidence, curiosity, learning and wellbeing can grow.

Every Child Is Different

Children don't all communicate, process experiences or experience the world in the same way.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach. We adapt our support around the child in front of us, respecting their individual needs, strengths and communication.

Small Moments Matter

Change doesn't always happen in big, obvious ways.

Sometimes it is a child joining in for the first time, asking for help, trying something new, making a connection or simply feeling comfortable enough to stay.

We notice those moments. Because they matter.

How We Bring the All Is Well Approach to Life…

Our approach isn't a programme that looks exactly the same for every child. It is a way of working that adapts to the individual, the setting and what is needed in that moment.

We build relationships

We take time to build trust and create spaces where children feel listened to, respected and safe to be themselves.

We look beyond behaviour

We consider the emotional, sensory, relational and developmental needs that may sit underneath what we see, rather than focusing simply on changing the behaviour.

We use play and creativity

Play, art, stories and shared experiences can give children different ways to communicate, explore feelings and build confidence, particularly when words don't come easily.

We adapt to the child

There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Activities, communication and support are adapted around individual needs, strengths and ways of experiencing the world.

We work safely and thoughtfully

Our work is grounded in professional practice, safeguarding, appropriate risk assessment and ethical standards. Where animals are involved, their welfare is just as important as the child's.

Different ways of working with one shared approach.

PAWS, PLAY, ART and LEARN may look different from one another, but they all sit within the same foundation of safety, connection, understanding and respect.
