Children’s Mental Health Week 2026: This Is My Place

This Children’s Mental Health Week, I asked children and young people to share what helps them feel safe. The answers came on little post it notes, in their own words, honest, simple, and beautifully human.

Some of our conversations and discussions made me pause:

“Having someone listen to me.”

“Being able to make mistakes without getting in trouble.”

“Sitting quietly with Lola.”

“Knowing I’m not alone.”

Safety isn’t complicated. It doesn’t live in policies or posters. It lives in the small moments…the glances, the kindness, the consistency, the space to breathe.

These children reminded me that real emotional safety begin with noticing what each person needs, and responding with thought and care.

Sometimes the biggest lessons are the smallest ones. 🐾
